This kanji is based on the pictograph of a person standing, viewed side-on, so it is unsurprising that it means person.

Very common as a radical, though with altered appearance. Several variations exist.

亻 appears at the left, called 人偏 (にんべん), sometimes having a meaning related to person, such as 僕 me, 体 body, or 住 dwell.

𠆢 appears at the top, called 人頭 (ひとがしら), as in 会 meeting, 今 now, or 全 entire.

儿 appears at the bottom, called 人足 (ひとあし), as in 先 before, 光 light, or 兄 older brother.
